Gabriel Flores ya es oficialmente Cronista del municipio que le vio nacer: Vera. Un reconocimiento a su labor como autor y divulgador de numerosos artículos de tradiciones y costumbres de la Ciudad de Vera de la que además ha escrito varios libros de historia sobre las instituciones y sobre sus calles. Este martes se celebró la sesión Plenaria que de forma unánime nombró al veratense como nuevo cronista municipal.

Un nombramiento bien merecido ya que, entre otras cosas, Flores se ha encargado de organizar y participar en numerosos actos de divulgación histórica en la localidad, en los que ha demostrado con creces su cariño por la historia y por el pueblo de vera. Así como también ha examinado los vetustos y abundantes fondos documentales del importante Archivo Histórico Municipal. Recopilando historias y fotografías, una tarea que ha resultado “determinante”, para que el actual Equipo de Gobierno le propusiera como Cronista Oficial de la Ciudad de Vera.

El recién nombrado cronista reconoció que cuando llegó al archivo municipal a penas podía descifrar los escritos que encontraba, debido a la complejidad de la escritura antigua. Finalmente con pasión y esfuerzo Gabriel llegó a tener entre sus manos documentos firmados por los propios Reyes Católicos, algo que el protagonista sintió de forma especial. «Vera no estaba en el centro de Castilla pero se cocían muchas cosas y hay muchos documentos importantes», revelaba en su discurso.

El protagonista puso de manifiesto la riqueza histórica del municipio donde aseguró que, «Vera ha vivido un acontecimiento importante en cada siglo», así mismo reseñó que cada uno de estos momentos va acompañado de algo que al parecer gusta mucho a los veratenses: las leyendas. Incluso la creación de la nueva Ciudad tras el gran terremoto tiene su leyenda en base a la frase de que fue construida «a tiro de ballesta», llegando a elucubrar que fuera la propia reina Isabel de Castilla la que se subiera al Cerro del Espíritu Santo para lanza una flecha que habría caído en la mismísima plaza Mayor actual.

Una anécdota que Gabriel recordaba entre risas debido a lo descabellado del asunto ya que la propia Reina de Castilla habría fallecido años antes del suceso. Sin embargo, Flores insistió a sus vecinos en lo importante de visitar el Archivo Histórico Municipal de Vera, «aunque sea solo una vez, para quitar el gusanillo».

Gabriel Flores nació en 1952 en el número 59 de la calle Mayor de Vera y a pesar de que su vida profesional ha transcurrido en entidades bancarias, siempre ha sido un apasionado de la historia, afición a la que pudo dedicarse de lleno tras su jubilación en 2010, momento en el que comenzó a visitar el archivo municipal de vera y a investigar manuscritos de la edad media y todo tipo de documentos antiguos, convirtiéndose en un gran investigador y paleógrafo o lector de escritura antigua.

Alfonso García, alcalde de Vera, reconoció que este es “un nombramiento más que merecido por la importantísima labor que Gabriel Flores viene realizando para rescatar, mantener y conservar el  legado histórico, artístico y cultural de  Vera”.

DON EUSEBIO GARRES SEGURA (nacido en Baza, 1868- fallecido en Somontín en 1937, maestro en Vera desde 1887 hasta 1917, año en el que se traslada a la ciudad de Almería), fue nombrado cronista oficial de Vera el 4 de septiembre de 1908 (folio 39 recto de las Actas Capitulares de Vera). Fue además escritor, historiador, obteniendo la medalla de la Orden Civil de Alfonso XII (1909), y siendo designado como hijo adoptivo de Vera en 1926.

DON JUAN ANTONIO MECA Y JIMÉNEZ (nacido en Vera, 23-03-1876 – fallece en Vera 12-10-1929). Publicista, poeta y comediógrafo. Su familia era natural de Cuevas del Almanzora. Suponemos que fue nombrado cronista oficial de Vera entre el año 1917 (fecha de traslado de don Eusebio Garres Segura a la ciudad de Almería) y 1929, año de su fallecimiento. La fuente documental en la que se puede leer que fue cronista oficial de Vera es el semanario regional denominado El Almanzora, de fecha 23/11/1929, en un artículo escrito por su amigo, el cronista de Cuevas del Almanzora, don Miguel Flores González – Grano de Oro.

DON JUAN ANTONIO CUADRADO RUIZ (Vera, 14-02-1886 – Almería, 1952). Fue arqueólogo y primer director del Museo Provincial. Fue nombrado cronista oficial de Vera el día 21 de marzo de 1933 (según el periódico Crónica Meridional), aunque no se ha encontrado el acuerdo durante esas sesiones en los libros de Pleno del Ayuntamiento de Vera.

Gabriel Flores is now officially Chronicler of the municipality where he was born: Vera. The newly designated chronicler acknowledged that when he arrived at the municipal archive he could barely decipher the writings he found, due to the complexity of ancient writing. Finally, with passion and effort, Gabriel came to have in his hands documents signed by the Catholic Monarchs themselves, something that the protagonist felt in a special way. "Vera was not in the center of Castile but many things were done and there are many important documents," he revealed in his speech.
The protagonist highlighted the historical richness of the municipality where he assured that, "Vera has experienced an important event in each century", he also noted that each of these moments is accompanied by something that apparently the people of Veratense like very much: the legends . Even the creation of the new City after the great earthquake has its legend based on the phrase that it was built "within the range of a crossbow", leading to speculation that it was Queen Isabella of Castile herself who climbed the Cerro del Espíritu Santo. to launch an arrow that would have landed in the current Plaza Mayor itself.
An anecdote that Gabriel remembered with a laugh due to the absurdity of the matter and the fact that the Queen of Castile herself had died years before the event. However, Flores insisted to his neighbors that it was important to visit the Vera Municipal Historical Archive, "even if it's just once, to get rid of the desire".
