<\/a><\/p>\nEfectivamente, si observamos las cubiertas de algunos de los libros que se exponen en sus p\u00e1ginas web, nos damos cuenta de que las encuadernaciones de los voluminosos libros de la Abad\u00eda del Sacromonte son id\u00e9nticas a las conservadas en Vera por aquellos a\u00f1os. As\u00ed, la presencia de la estrella en la cubierta ser\u00eda un homenaje<\/strong> al lugar donde estudi\u00f3 leyes la m\u00e1xima autoridad municipal. En aquellos a\u00f1os, los Alcaldes Mayores<\/strong> de Vera fueron: Francisco de la Cueva, Antonio de Molina y Bravo, Mart\u00edn de Hari\u00e7a, Francisco de Sigura, Alonso de Salas, Joan Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez Bigil, Diego Garc\u00eda de C\u00e1novas, Tom\u00e1s de Arag\u00f3n y Alonso de la Cadena.<\/p>\nEn cuanto a la existencia de jud\u00edos en Vera, adem\u00e1s de estar seguros de que del apellido \u2018Mellado\u2019<\/strong> (emigrantes de Lorca desde los inicios de la Vera cristiana), \u2018Toledo\u2019<\/strong> y \u2018Cabezas\u2019<\/strong> tienen que ver con esta cuesti\u00f3n, la \u00fanica referencia que la apoya s\u00f3lidamente se encuentra en un expediente judicial de 1818<\/strong>, adem\u00e1s de un plano de Vera de 1892<\/strong> en el que leemos, en las inmediaciones del actual Instituto Alyanub, \u2018Yud\u00edo\u2019.<\/p>\nManuel Caparr\u00f3s Perales<\/p>\n

STAR OF DAVID, ARTICLES OF CAPITULATION (1609) AND THE SACROMONTE COLLEGE<\/span><\/p>\n(Traducci\u00f3n: \u00a0Juan Antonio Camacho)<\/p>\n
Articles of Capitulation of Vera’s Borough Council, that contain government agreements from 1609 to 1614, show on its parchment cover -cow’s clean leather- a strange, astonishing and atypical characteristic as regards other similar books: two sewn leather stars of six points known as Star of David.<\/span><\/p>\n Researchers and curious people have interested in this symbol, it has aroused multiple hypothesis and speculations, without come to an end: Jews in Vera?<\/b>; had some Crypto Jew intention to leave proof of his existence?; was only the capricious bookbinder? The existence in the new city of ‘very noble capitular men’, so called supposedly noblemen without muslim or arabian blood, made difficult this possibility, although that was one of heterodoxy’s centuries in Spain. <\/span><\/p>\n I was given the first correct clue by Cruz Ramos Mart\u00ednez<\/b>, Almer\u00eda’s documentary restorer; she had seen decorated Articles of Capitulation with those same stars in Granada’s archives when she studied there.<\/span><\/p>\nI was given a second clue by Mr. Francisco Mart\u00ednez Botella<\/b>, a priest who is a reliable source of knowledge and a privileged mind; when he saw the book’s cover he firmly told me that Lord Mayor applied the law at that moment in Vera or one of his assistants, had studied in Sacromonte religious college in Granada, Institution where that symbol is plentiful.<\/span><\/p>\n The history of Sacromonte Abbey<\/b> begins with the discovery of a canvas in 1588, a Virgin’s image and a scroll written in Latin, Arabic and Spanish, during cathedral construction built on muslim medina’s grand mosque . From this discovery of what Granada’s original pre-islamic christian settlers were, libros pl\u00fambeos <\/b><\/i>appeared <\/b>in the same land where Abbey is found and, at that time it was Monte Valpara\u00edso. Libros pl\u00fambeos<\/b><\/i>, built with lead sheets, tell the story of Saint Caecilius, the first bishop of the city in the II century that was tortured while he was preaching the Gospel. In those books we observe the aforementioned stars with six points that will have a wide circulation. <\/span><\/p>\n The granadino intellectual and devotional movement was expressed on October 17, 1610 when an institution was created. The prime mover of XVI’s dynamism in Granada was Pedro de Castro Vaca y Qui\u00f1ones, Granada’s archbishop. All complex was used as literature, law and theology college<\/b> (as was becoming the custom) and it became one of the first private colleges in Europe<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\nIndeed, if we observe some book covers exposed in their websites, we realise that bulky bindings of Sacromonte Abbey books are similar to Vera’s. In this way, the presence of the star on the cover would be in honour of<\/b> the place where the greatest municipal authority studied law. Those years, Vera’s Alcaldes Mayores <\/b>were: <\/b>Francisco de la Cueva, Antonio de Molina y Bravo, Mart\u00edn de Hari\u00e7a, Francisco de Sigura, Alonso de Salas, Joan Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez Bigil, Diego Garc\u00eda de C\u00e1novas, Tom\u00e1s de Arag\u00f3n y Alonso de la Cadena.<\/span><\/p>\n In terms of existence of Jews in Vera, besides the fact that we are sure about Mellado<\/b> (Lorca’s emigrants from the beginning of christian Vera), and ‘Toledo and Cabezas’ <\/b>surnames <\/b>have to do with this topic, a judicial record (1818<\/b>) is the only reference that agrees with the argument that those surnames are related to this topic as well as a plan of Vera (1892<\/b>) where we read, in the vicinity of Alyanub School, ‘Yud\u00edo’.<\/span><\/p>\nManuel Caparr\u00f3s Perales<\/span><\/p>\nVera’s Municipal Archivist<\/span><\/p>\nMay, 2010<\/span><\/p>\n
